KNOW THYSELF – LIKE A SPIRITUAL GANGSTER

To Know Thyself is to understand your thoughts, emotions, and actions. These are the elements that make up your behavior. According to Psychology Today, an average human makes 35,000 choices a day. Your choices strung together, become your behavior. Your behavior, conditioned over time, becomes your personality. Thus our choices over time become our personalities. With that said, would you like to drill down into why you make the choices you do?

Everything begins with awareness of self.

Most adults grasp this concept with ease, but to practice the art of ‘Knowing Thyself’ is much more challenging. Why is this?

We are in a life cycle of expression, experimentation, integration, and transcendence. We are turning ourselves over and over again, churning life experiences into ideas and values about who we are. Each of us has unique paths to walk, but there are spiritual laws that govern us all. Knowing these spiritual principles helps us recognize when a particular ‘truth’ requires our attention before being blindsided by a prolonged imbalance of untruth. Life will bring challenges. There is no avoiding that. Knowing thyself and practicing self-mastery is the path to smoothing those edges and reducing confusion, complications, harmful actions, and destructive cycles. To Know Thyself is to seek absolute knowledge and personal truth, then integrate this external and internal Knowledge into a daily practice to attain wisdom.

"To know thyself is the beginning of all wisdom."

Socrates

When a person embarks on their journey to Know Thyself, they begin their path of inquisition searching for answers to life’s existential questions in books, films, podcasts, websites, courses, community, etc. Open our Vault to see such resources. This beginning point is the perfect place to be. Because this is when we consciously decide to put our lives on a meaningful course. So, where do we begin when we find ourselves in this moment of, “Who am I?”

This is the most meaningful question you’ll ever ask yourself.

EMBARKING ON OUR HERO’S JOURNEY

We begin our hero’s journey when we set off to search how to put the pieces of our lives together (or back together again). When we achieve harmony of our physical, emotional, and spiritual self, thus balancing the spiritual laws within, our thoughts, emotions, expressions, and actions take hold in the world in a magnetic and magnificent way. In other words, our inner thoughts, our desires, and our intentions materialize becoming reflections of our inner world. In this instance, our inner world and outer world are one and the same. To organize our minds, we must gain knowledge about ourselves. The Buddhists say, “Change your mind, change your experience.”

How do we do this? This is a curious question.

In today’s day and age, it’s recognized that humanity needs healing and course correction if we are to sustain life and well-being on this planet. Before we can gain collective understanding, we must each discover ourselves, know ourselves and master ourselves. The greatest action one can engage in is meditation. Meditation, available in many forms, gives us clarity so that we show up in the material world with spiritualized intention.

What does spirit mean to you?

If we are to provide any service to the world, we will only do it well if we know who we are. Who we are beyond our material veil is the question. As magnificent as our human body is, we have a deeper, more expansive connected world within. We are synced up to the universal mind, aka the matrix, through our inner eye, inner mind, and our inner universe, which is connected to all points in time and space with the entire universe. It is this deep well where we tap into our true selves to find our inner truth. This is our Spirit. Tapping into spirit is how we have a spiritualized material existence. The point of it all, Life, the human experiment, is to bridge these ‘worlds’.

There are excellent life purpose models and tools such as numerology, the enneagram, astrology, Myers Briggs; you’ve probably heard of them. Spiritual Gangster favors the Human Design system, as it is a comprehensive system that includes these tools as well as the chakras, Kabbalah, and iChing. The gates of the human design system are your genetic code for how you experience and relate to the material world, from your unique design and point of view.

Deepen Your Study: Quantum Physics, Science of Consciousness, Healing Sciences

We are composed of mind, body, spirit, and emotion. These bodies, entities, or centers play roles in our human experience, our perspectives, and our reality. Thus, it’s important to understand these aspects of self so we can find our balance. Most of us are aware of ourselves based on our interactions with others and our environments. This is our outer experience.

When we are interacting with the material world, we are receiving and computing data from the material matrix into our body through our senses which is processed and distributed by the brain and heart. The docu-series on Netflix explains this well; watch Human: The World Within on Netflix.

With all of these ‘selves’ functioning together, as well as the input we receive from our families, friends, peers, communities, and social circles (also having their unique experiences), sometimes hearing our own thoughts and positions can be confusing. Like a boat in stormy seas, our personal lifeboats get swept away in the storm…particularly when we are not centered and grounded.

A deep study of self is a process that all of us go through at some point in our lives. It begins when we ask ourselves, “What does it all mean?” This is the primary question that activates our spiritual journey, a desire and a wish to discover that something we believe exists. Be it a silent whisper or unexplained phenomenon, this thing signals that we are ready to awaken. We usually begin this inquiry after a painful or traumatizing experience; loss, failure, defeat, or some version of not feeling that we are good enough. When the idea of who we think we are is shattered and we suddenly find ourselves lost, having no idea who we are, we set out to understand. This is a healthy response to reducing our suffering; through expansion of self versus instant gratification, which always proves to be unsustainable.

This happens in waves and cycles throughout life so do not be surprised when you think you know yourself, to find yourself questioning again, “Who am I?” This great universal paradox keeps the mystery of self-exploration alive. Cycles, circles, spirals, and fractals are nature’s patterns in evolution. So when you feel like you’re back in the same place you started, revisiting a lesson you thought you already learned, consider that you’re one floor up on a spiral staircase, wiser because of the lessons learned.

Knowing the Hermetic principles and power centers in our body represent the knowledge and values we must learn to balance in the human experience. How well we align these aspects of self is how well we are balanced with the Divine.
